Makeup for almond eyes: how to make them look bigger

elongating makeup for almond eyes

*adlink

This tutorial shows how to make almond eyes look bigger with an elongating eyeshadow shape. The key is to keep depth on the outer corner, pull the shadow slightly outward, brighten the lid and inner corner, and keep liner close to the lashes so the lid space stays open. The same placement also works well for hooded almond eyes and slightly deep set eyes.

Quick guide: shade just above the natural crease, deepen the outer V, add light to the lid and inner corner, and tightline instead of using a thick liner. If your eyes are hooded, lift the matte shading just above the fold so it stays visible when your eyes are open.

If your eye shape is closer to deep set, round, or downturned, you may also want to compare this with my hooded and deep set eyeshadow trick, round deep set eyes tutorial, and downturned eyes makeup guide.

Makeup for almond eyes that makes them look bigger

Almond eyes are typically more narrow, rather than round, and there is not a lot of visible lid space. The shape resembles an almond.

My sister’s Annika’s eyes are almond shaped. They are also a bit hooded, but they don’t totally hide her lid. When she relaxes her eyes you can see the hood dropping on the lid a bit.

A flattering makeup is basically done in just three steps.

how to apply eyeshadow for almond eyes

  1. Shade the crease with a medium matte shade. If you have hooded eyes, make sure to lift up the shading on top of the hood as well.
  2. Define the outer part of the eye with a dark matte shade, along with the natural shape of the eye.
  3. Add light on the lid and inner corner.

Annika is used to wearing eyeshadow and she always wears her eyeshadow pretty much the way I did it here. Rather than taking the eyeshadow super high (like I do on my own eye shape), she takes advantage of the outer part of the eye and pulls the eyeshadow there. This elongates the eye and suits her almond eyes perfectly!

You might also notice, that the eyeshadow color I chose really brings out the olive color of her eyes. That makes the makeup even more flattering for her.

Step-by-step almond eye makeup tutorial

Besides the usual step by step eyeshadow tutorial, I have more photos below to show you the change compared to the bare eye.

  1. First I lightly shaded the hooded area with a light brown. If your eyes are not hooded, you can lightly shade your crease instead.
  2. Next I started to elongate the eye by defining the outer corner.
  3. Then I blended that out really well, leaving the eyeshadow still focused in the outer part of the eye.
  4. Then I added shimmery color to the lid (see how that highlights that area?) and on the inner corner.
  5. Finally I tightlined the eye and added mascara.

And here’s the steps in just one eye.

I also tightlined the eyes. It’s a good trick, because it saves the lid space, but defines the lashes and makes them look thicker.
In the outer part I brought the liner on the lid, just a bit.

See the difference tightlining makes?

As for the makeup products used on Annika, here are the key things listed. I tried Zuii Organic’s Flora Flawless foundation on her and I was amazed at how well it suited her dry skin. Usually it’s so difficult to find suitable foundations for my sister and she mixes argan oil almost with all her foundations. But this foundation went on very smoothly on the skin and looked beautiful and radiant! The only downside to it (for my sister’s preference) is that it has a rose scent from the ingredients. It does evaporate during the day though. Otherwise she would have bought the foundation.

If you have dry skin, my sister has also shared her skincare routine in this post!

Brilliant black pencil for sensitive eyes

black pencil for sensitive eyes review

The best black pencil for sensitive eyes.

I never thought I would be blogging about a single black eye pencil, but I realized it’s necessary. This pencil from a natural makeup brand does not irritate my sensitive eyes and I’ve used it for years.

It also just has all the features I need from a simple makeup product like this. It’s one of those products I use daily, yet I don’t really pay a lot of attention to. So now it deserves a spotlight!

The best black pencil for sensitive eyes – Alima Pure Natural Definition Pencil, Ink

Alima Pure’s *black pencil in the shade Ink is the perfect black pencil. It really is a deep black and it lasts well.

I use it mainly to line my eyes and tightline between my lashes. If you’re interested to learn how to tightline, I have a tutorial on my Instagram highlights (makeup tips -section) . I’ve never had any problems with it when it comes to longevity.

I rarely use it on my waterline and there, naturally, it doesn’t last that well. But if I do use something on my waterline, it’s this product, because it doesn’t irritate my eyes. That said, if you have sensitive eyes you probably don’t want to use anything on your waterline anyway. I rarely do because my eyes can get watery because of wind, cold, you name it. (Looking at these makeup photos I’m thinking I probably should use black pencil on the waterline more often, though?)

The pencil can be blended for a smokey look thanks to its moisturizing natural oils and waxes. It’s not something that sticks to your eye and doesn’t move at all. It contains jojoba oil, plant based wax and even chamomile extract, so the ingredients really are suitable for sensitive eyes.

It also happens to be cruelty free and vegan.

I feel like there’s only so much I can say about a black pencil like this. It’s just a brilliant product – especially for sensitive eyes. If you have any questions, let me know!

The pencil costs less than 20 euros and you can shop it for example on amazon.

YSL vinyl cream burgundy vibes 409

In this makeup I used the black pencil quite heavily on the eyes, added warm bronze tones and a dark glossy lip. Pretty much all the fall makeup trends in one look, heh. I love that lipstick – it’s such a beautiful color and the consistency is very unique. Glossy, super pigmented and quite long lasting.
